Two minutes

How to install a removable SUHAE shower filter

Compatible SUHAE models usually install by hand. Stop if the thread does not engage smoothly and contact us before using tools.

A shower head turning off a wall arm, leaving the threaded fitting exposed.

Unscrew what is there. Anticlockwise, by hand. Put it somewhere you will remember.

The filter threading onto the same wall fitting.

Screw the filter on. Onto the same fitting the head came off. Hand tight is tight enough. Do not reach for a wrench.

The filter on the wall fitting with the original shower head back on the end of it, running.

Put your head back on the filter. Your own showerhead threads onto the other end. Run it for a minute and check both joins.

When you leave

Take your SUHAE shower filter when you move

Keep the original showerhead so you can restore the bathroom and reinstall SUHAE at a compatible new address.

Keep the original head

Store the original showerhead and washers safely for reinstatement at the end of the tenancy.

The second most common reason

Your water can change when you move

Water hardness and disinfectant type vary by location. Check your new utility data if your shower experience changed after a move.

"My family and I moved into a new rental a few months ago, the shower water was causing our eczema prone skin to feel like it was burning."

To be clear about what this is: that review is about a shower filter, not about Suhae.

Compare your previous and current water supply

Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra are soft. Brisbane and Adelaide are moderately hard. In Perth, a move across the river is a real change.

Three setups

Will it fit my shower?

Compatibility depends on the thread, available space and shower type.

A fixed head on a wall arm with the filter between them and the clearance below marked.

Fixed head on a wall arm. The easy case. Check a hand's width of clearance below the shower arm.

A ceiling-mounted rain head with the filter in the drop and the height below marked.

Rail shower or ceiling rain head. Usually fine. It adds length in line with the fitting, so a ceiling drop sits lower.

A handheld head on a hose sitting at an angle on its cradle, with the filter above it at the wall.

Handheld on a hose. The hard case. See below before you order.

Handheld showers on a hose

Check the available clearance and whether added length or weight will affect the handshower cradle.

The adaptor nut is bulky, so in a tight recess there may not be room to turn it.

The filter adds weight at the top of the hose, so on some cradles the head will not stay pointed where you put it.

Some tight handshower setups may need a compatible swivel adaptor. Send us a photo before purchasing one.

Not sure which case you are?

Send us a clear photo on WhatsApp and we will check the compatible SUHAE options before you order.

Questions

Common questions from renters

Do I need my landlord's permission?

Rental terms vary. Check your lease or ask your property manager before changing a shower fitting, even when the product is removable.

Compatible screw-on SUHAE models require no drilling or permanent pipework. This describes the installation only and is not tenancy advice.

Will it damage the fitting or the thread?

A compatible fitting should thread on smoothly by hand. Stop if it cross-threads, leaks or requires force, and contact us before using tools.

What if I move again in six months?

Take it. Unscrew it, put the old head back, and install it again at the new place in the same two minutes.

Cartridge life depends mainly on water volume and household shower use, so the replacement interval continues after a move.

Does it slow the water down?

The Universal sits behind the head you already have and does not replace it, so what your shower is like is set by that head rather than by us.

Radiance and Nourish only

If you are replacing the head as well, both were measured at 5.0 litres a minute by Singapore Laboratory Services, tested to AS/NZS 3662:2013. How the plate does it.

Take your SUHAE shower filter when you move

SUHAE Universal fits between the wall connection and your existing shower head. It installs without permanent changes and unscrews easily when you move.
