VITAE INFUSION

How vitamin C reacts with chlorine in shower water

Vitae Infusion uses ascorbic acid to react chemically with chlorine compounds as water passes through the cartridge.

How Vitae Infusion works

Residual chlorine was not detected at each test interval from 1,000 to 6,000 litres under the published conditions. KEWI certificate IW-230133.

How it works

Vitamin C reacts as shower water passes through the cartridge

A Suhae vitamin C cartridge on stone with water running over it.

25,000 mg of L-ascorbic acid.

L-ascorbic acid is vitamin C. It reacts with chlorine compounds and produces chloride as part of the reaction.

A chemical reaction rather than adsorption.

Activated carbon works by adsorbing compounds onto its surface. Vitae Infusion instead uses ascorbic acid in a chemical reduction reaction.

What about chloramine?

Ascorbic acid can also react with chloramine. The published certificate cited on this page tests free chlorine, not chloramine, so these are separate statements.

Test method and scope

The sequence

How Vitae Infusion fits into SUHAE filtration

Shower water moves through the product continuously at several litres per minute.

Vitae Infusion uses a chemical reaction as water passes through, followed by particle filtration and spray shaping.

Is this the same as a vitamin C serum?

No. A vitamin C serum is a topical skincare product.

Vitae Infusion uses ascorbic acid inside the cartridge to react with chlorine compounds in the water.

What can I expect after installation?

If free chlorine contributes to the smell of your shower water, reducing it may make that smell less noticeable.

Your experience will also depend on the disinfectant used by your utility, local water chemistry and household shower use.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about Vitae Infusion

How exactly does vitamin C neutralise chlorine?

Ascorbic acid acts as a reducing agent, reacting with chlorine compounds as water passes through. This is a chemical reaction rather than an adsorption process.

Does it work on chloramine as well as chlorine?

Ascorbic acid can react with both free chlorine and chloramine. The disinfectant used in your local supply is set by your water utility.

Certificate IW-230133 reports a free-chlorine result. It does not report a chloramine performance result.

Does it still work in warm, fast-flowing water?

The ascorbic-acid reaction occurs as water passes through the cartridge. Published performance claims remain limited to the stated test conditions.

How long does a cartridge last?

A Vita Refill typically lasts two to three months, depending on household shower use. Replacements cost AUD $29.90 and are available in ten scent options.

Which products have this stage in them?

Vita Refill fits Radiance, Nourish and Aura. Universal uses its own compatible cartridge range.
