How Often Should You Replace Your Shower Filter in Australia?

If you have a Suhae shower filter, replace the cartridge every two to three months, depending on how much the household showers. That goes for every model, Suhae Universal included. Someone living alone will usually get close to three months. A busy family bathroom gets nearer to two.
How often to replace a shower filter cartridge in Australia
The cartridge is the part that does the work. In a Suhae shower filter it holds 25,000 mg of vitamin C, which turns chlorine and chloramine into chloride as the water passes through. Ahead of the vitamin C, ceramic beads and micro fabric catch sediment and fine particles from the pipes.
Every shower uses a little of it, so the cartridge gets replaced and the shower filter itself stays where it is. The easiest way to keep track is a reminder in your phone, set on the day you fit a new one.
Signs the cartridge is spent
The calendar is the best guide, but a used cartridge also gives itself away:
- The chlorine smell is back. A fresh cartridge takes it out of a hot shower, so when that pool smell returns, the vitamin C is running low.
- The scent has faded. A Vita Refill releases its scent as the water runs through it, and a fresh one brings it back.
- The cartridge looks discoloured when you take it out, from the sediment and pipe particles it has caught.
- It has been more than three months since you fitted it.
Why household size changes the answer
A cartridge wears down with the water that goes through it, so it runs out by the litre. One person showering once a day sits at the longer end. A family of four, or two showers a day through summer, sits at the shorter end. Long showers count too.
If several people share one bathroom, keep a spare Vita Refill in the cupboard so you can swap it on the day it’s due.
