Which part you unscrew depends on the shower you have. A handheld comes apart at the bottom of the handle, and the hose stays on the wall. A fixed wall head comes off the shower arm, the short pipe that sticks out of the wall. Both turn anticlockwise by hand, and the join you open is where a Suhae shower filter goes on.
Fixed wall head or handheld on a hose?
Look at where the water comes out. If the head sits on the end of a pipe from the wall and stays put, it’s a fixed head. If it’s on a hose and lifts out of a holder or slides up and down a rail, it’s a handheld. Some bathrooms have both, and each one has its own join.
Handheld heads: unscrew where the hose meets the handle
On a handheld, leave the wall end alone. The join you want is at the bottom of the handle, where the hose screws in. Hold the handle still and turn the nut on the hose anticlockwise by hand. After a few turns the handle comes free, and the hose stays connected at the wall.
That free end of the hose is where a handheld Suhae shower filter screws on. Suhae Radiance and Suhae Nourish take the place of the old handpiece: screw one onto the hose until it’s hand-tight, then run the water and check the join. If you’d rather keep your own handpiece, Suhae Universal goes between the hose and the head.
Inside each one is a vitamin C cartridge that turns chlorine and chloramine into chloride. In KEWI’s testing for certificate IW-230133, the cartridge took out 99.9% of chlorine, and no chlorine was detected through 6,000 litres.
Fixed heads: loosening it from the arm by hand
A fixed head screws onto the end of the shower arm. Take hold of the head and turn it anticlockwise. Once the thread lets go, keep turning by hand until the head comes off and you can see the thread on the arm.
Suhae Universal is made for this setup. It screws onto the arm by hand, and your own shower head screws onto the other end of the filter, so the head you’re used to stays. Want a handheld Suhae shower filter on a fixed arm instead? The arm may need an adaptor first, and we can tell you which one from a photo.
If it will not turn, send us a photo on WhatsApp
A head that has been on for years can hold on to its thread. If it won’t turn by hand, stop there and send a clear photo of your shower to us on WhatsApp at +61 494 015 898. We’ll look at the fitting, tell you which part comes off, and confirm which Suhae shower filter suits that setup before you order. We reply on WhatsApp within 24 hours.
What you need, and how long it takes
Your two hands and a couple of minutes. Suhae Universal is a universal fit for standard shower fittings, and each Suhae shower filter goes on by hand in about 2 minutes with no tools. Once it’s on, run the water for a minute and look at both joins.
If you rent, it comes off the same way it went on, so the original head can go back before you move out. There’s more in shower filters for renters. To check thread, clearance and cradle angle before you buy, see how to choose a shower filter in Australia.
Whichever shower you have, the filter goes on where the old part came off.
