Understanding shower water and children’s skin
Worse after every bath, and you assumed it was the soap. Almost everyone does.
If your child's skin looks angrier coming out of the water than it did going in, write that down.
The water is worth ruling in or out, and it is the one input in that bathroom you cannot buy a different version of.
This page is about what Australian utilities put in shower water and where it varies. It is not medical advice, and nothing on it is a reason to change anything a doctor has you doing.
What is in your child’s shower water?
Water utilities maintain a disinfectant residual to protect water through the supply network.
Utilities may use free chlorine or chloramine. Free chlorine is more volatile, while chloramine is more stable in water.
Sydney runs chloramine. Melbourne runs free chlorine at about 0.76 mg/L, Brisbane and Ipswich at roughly 2 mg/L.

Why vitamin C rather than carbon
Most carbon filters are built around free chlorine. Chloramine is the harder one, and it is what Sydney has.
Vitamin C, which is ascorbic acid, reduces both chemically rather than trying to adsorb them, which is the reason Suhae uses it. Limits included, the mechanism is on the chemistry page.
Why baths and showers are different
A bath involves longer contact with standing water. A shower filter only treats water that passes through the connected shower outlet.

Solid is filtered, dashed is not. The filter sits above the head, so the spout below it is untouched.
Does a shower filter work for a bath?
Nobody in this category will tell you this, so we will. A filter screws in above the shower head. It does nothing at all to water coming out of a bath spout.
Where it does apply to a small child is the hand shower. If you rinse hair and skin off with the hand shower at the end of the bath, that rinse is filtered and the bath is not. For an older child who showers, all of it is.
If your bathroom has a fixed head over the bath and no hand shower on a hose, that rinse is not available to you either.

Knowing when the cartridge is spent
Universal cartridge life is not currently published. Ask our team for the latest product guidance before ordering replacements.
There is no indicator either, so nothing tells you when it is spent.
So how would you know, and what does it cost to stop
Buy a couple of free chlorine test strips, a few dollars at a pool shop, and check it yourself every few weeks.
